BRETT W. MCCOY, MD

Dr. McCoy is a Cleveland native who joined the Center for Orthopedics after 8 years in practice, most recently serving as division head of orthopedics at Marymount Hospital. He is a board-certified surgeon with a subspecialty certification in sports medicine. He obtained a Bachelor’s degree from Miami University and completed his medical training at the University of Cincinnati.  After graduating from residency at Northwestern University, Dr. McCoy completed a sports medicine fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic.

During his training, he had the rewarding opportunity to serve as assistant to the team physician for the Chicago Blackhawks, as well as the Cleveland Browns, Cavaliers, and Indians. After completion of his training, he served as the team physician for Cleveland State University, the Cleveland Monsters, the Lake Erie Captains, and 5 area high schools.

Dr. McCoy is devoted to helping his patients and has published research pertaining to rotator cuff tears, shoulder instability, meniscal tears, customized total knee replacements, and Achilles tendon injuries. His book chapter publications include cartilage transplantation, ligament injuries of the knee, and injuries to the patella and patellar tendon. He has worked as a clinical assistant professor at Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University.

His surgical practice includes arthroscopy of the shoulder and knee, total joint replacements, fracture repair, and treatment of soft tissue injuries. From a non-operative standpoint, he cares for a range or musculoskeletal injuries from minor aches and pains to fractures and arthritis.

In his free time, Dr. McCoy loves to explore the outdoors with his rescue dogs. He also snowboards and plays ice hockey and spends a lot of time with his family and friends. He’s an avid reader who seeks to continue learning.
